CognabilityCognitive Ability Evaluation

Five ability domains, ten subtests, one detailed report.

A test built on the Cattell–Horn–Carroll model, the framework underlying the established clinical intelligence tests. Scoring uses an item response model, and every score is reported with its confidence interval — not a single number that looks more precise than any measurement can be.

What is measured

Intelligence is not one single thing. This evaluation measures five domains that can be told apart empirically and that matter in different ways in everyday life. Each domain rests on two subtests — a single subtest would be too imprecise to support a conclusion.

  1. 01

    Verbal Comprehension

Measures acquired verbal knowledge and the ability to recognise relations of meaning between concepts and to reason in language. This area keeps growing across the lifespan with education and reading.

    Verbal Analogies · Vocabulary

  2. 02

    Fluid Reasoning

Measures the solving of unfamiliar problems without recourse to learned knowledge: spotting rules in new material, testing them and carrying them over. This area is held to be the least culturally bound.

    Figural Matrices · Number Series

  3. 03

    Visual-Spatial Processing

Measures the ability to generate, hold and transform visual information in the mind — rotating objects, anticipating folds, judging spatial relations.

    Mental Rotation · Paper Folding

  4. 04

    Working Memory

Measures how much information you can hold in mind and work on at the same time. Working memory sets the limit on how complex a train of thought may become before it breaks down.

    Digit Span · Letter–Number Sequencing

  5. 05

    Processing Speed

Measures the rate at which simple visual information is processed correctly. Speed is not quality of thought, but it acts as a limit on throughput: whatever is processed more slowly occupies working memory for longer.

What this test does — and what it does not

Set aside roughly 58 minutes without interruption. Two subtests run against a clock; for the rest you work at your own pace.
